History and background

The Up Your Life guide has been assembled by individuals with lived-experience in the hopes that their collective information and personal stories can help others navigate through similar situations.

Despite their struggles, this group wanted to pay it forward by creating a community guidebook that would help other people find ways to thrive on a limited budget.

YSSN received a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2017 to update the guidebook to reflect the changing and diverse population of York Region. We worked with community members and a group of community partners to revise the book so that it could be more reflective of the community’s unique journey.

More than 40,000 copies have helped community members connect to local services to date.
